for pacifying the Tung Kun and Sen On districts. There was also trouble between the police and the Tsai Kwan. The Tsai Kwan were gambling, taking food and not paying and would not obey the police. Mr. Chan King Wah was very much against Wong Sze Lung and did his best to get him out of Canton. I received several letters from which it is evident that they were on the worst of terms with each other. When Wong Sze Lung came to Hongkong Mr. Chan telegraphed to me to look out, as he was bring- -ing a lot of bad characters with him. Wong Sze Lung left Hong- -kong on August 27th. On or about August 27th. there were several large seizures of Canton llotes. It was obvious that they formed portion of the loot taken away by Chan Kwing ling and his follow- -ers. On August 30th. Mr. Chan King Wah saw me about these notes he said "you know Chan Kwing Ling was a great friend of mine, I dont like this, but it is my duty and I must do it".

Mr. Chan King Wah wrote to me on several occasione stating that there was recruiting going on of the Man Kwan and asking me to do my best to stop any of it going on in Hongkong. He mentioned that a man named Iu U Ping was tring his best to cause trouble with the Luk Kwan and Man Kwan; and he frequently gave me information that the members of the Kwok Han Tong were preparing for another revolution.

On September 15th. he wrote to me as follows:-

"I went to Hongkong on Saturday, but on arrival, knowing that you would not be in your office, I did not call there. Next

day, I and some ladies were going round to look for a house, and I

came acrose a party, well know agitators, whom I knew well. They

were living in a house No. 10 New Street (unnamed) between Robin-

-son Road and Conduit Road, two doors from So dhun Chau's No. 8.
